Why Slack Is Where Law Firms Work
More law firms are adopting Slack as their primary communication platform every year. The appeal is clear: organized channels replace chaotic email chains, threaded conversations keep discussions focused, and the searchable archive means nothing gets lost. For firms that already live in Slack, adding another tool outside of it creates friction — one more login, one more tab, one more place to check.
Lexi AI meets your team where they already work. Instead of forcing attorneys and staff to learn a new interface, Lexi shows up as a member of your Slack workspace. You message Lexi the same way you'd message a colleague — in DMs for private requests, in channels for team-visible workflows, and in threads for focused conversations about specific cases or documents.
How Lexi Works in Slack
Once installed, Lexi appears as a bot user in your workspace. You can invite Lexi to any channel, mention @Lexi in a thread, or DM Lexi directly. Every interaction is contextual — Lexi understands which channel it's in, what the conversation thread is about, and who is asking.
There are no special commands to memorize. You write in natural language — "Lexi, draft a demand letter for the Garcia matter" or "What's the statute of limitations for medical malpractice in Texas?" — and Lexi responds with structured, actionable output. Need to iterate? Just reply in the same thread and Lexi maintains full context.
Channel-Based Workflows
The real power of Lexi in Slack comes from channel-based workflows that mirror how your firm already organizes communication:
- #new-leads: Connect your website contact form or phone intake to this channel. When a new inquiry arrives, Lexi immediately engages the prospect, collects case details through a conversational flow, runs a conflict check, scores the lead, and posts a rich summary card for attorney review.
- #case-alerts: Lexi monitors every deadline across all active matters and posts advance warnings to a dedicated alerts channel. Attorneys see upcoming deadlines at a glance — no need to check a separate calendar or dashboard.
- #drafting-requests: Drop a drafting request into this channel and Lexi generates the document in a thread, allowing the requesting attorney and reviewers to discuss edits without cluttering the main channel.
- Practice-area channels: Lexi can be configured per channel, so #family-law gets family-law-specific prompt behavior while #corporate gets corporate defaults.
Channel-Based Client Intake
New leads flow into a designated Slack channel. Lexi qualifies, collects details, checks conflicts, and routes to the right attorney — all within the channel thread.
Threaded Document Drafting
Request a draft in any channel or DM. Lexi generates the document in a thread so your team can review, comment, and iterate without leaving Slack.
Proactive Deadline Alerts
Lexi monitors court deadlines, filing dates, and statute of limitations across all active matters and pushes alerts to the channels and people that need them.
Team Collaboration
Tag @Lexi in any thread to pull up case summaries, research a legal question, or log billable time. The whole team can see and build on Lexi's output.
Configuration Best Practices
During onboarding, our team helps you configure Lexi for your firm's specific Slack setup. Common configurations include:
- Channel permissions: Control which channels Lexi can access and which workflows are active per channel. Sensitive channels can be excluded entirely.
- Notification preferences: Choose which alerts go to channels vs. DMs, and set escalation rules for critical deadlines.
- Practice-area defaults: Configure Lexi's drafting templates, research sources, and intake questions by practice area, tied to specific channels.
- User roles: Attorneys, paralegals, and staff can have different permission levels for what they can ask Lexi to do.
We set up Lexi in our Slack workspace on a Monday morning. By lunch, the whole firm was using it. There was no training needed — people just started messaging Lexi like they would any other team member.
Security in Slack
Lexi's Slack integration is built with the same enterprise-grade security as the rest of the platform. All communication between Lexi and Slack is encrypted via TLS 1.2+. Lexi uses OAuth 2.0 scoped tokens — your Slack admin controls exactly which permissions Lexi has, and tokens can be revoked at any time.
Message content is processed in isolated, single-tenant environments and never stored beyond what's needed for the active conversation. Lexi is CASA certified with SOC 2 Type II in progress, and all data handling meets ABA Model Rule 1.6 confidentiality requirements. Audit logs capture every Lexi action in Slack for administrator review.
Getting Started
- Install Lexi from the Slack App Directory — your Slack admin approves the app and selects which channels Lexi can access.
